October is here and that means lots to do in our beautiful Alpharetta, Georgia community. The Idea Specialists© at Belmont Park Bridge apartment homes have a few suggestions for you to enjoy.
First off, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we have a great event to recommend, the Fourth Annual Think Pink Weekend held at nearby Scottsdale Farms this Saturday and Sunday Oct. 5-6. The family-friendly event will feature a Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze, and our favorite, hayrides from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There’s also face painting, live music, and a Planting Seminar with Wayne Juers, “The Plant Doc” (our green thumbs are itching to hear what he has to say) among other scheduled events.
A portion of proceeds from the event including corn maze and hayride fees and all tips and donations will be used to support TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides unmet survivorship needs of women with breast cancer in Greater Atlanta. Better yet, all donations will be matched by the Gianturco Family Foundation.
Also, this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 5, in downtown Alpharetta, make plans to attend the 14th Annual Scarecrow Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy family entertainment that includes groovy country music, crow-cornhole, quirky face painting, historical demos, artsy activities, stimulating story-telling, and engaging inflatables. The event is free and there will be food and beverages available for purchase.
By the way, you know what’s really cool? This exciting event has been voted by Travel+Leisure readers as the best fall festival in Georgia! Head over to Brooke Street Park behind City Hall to see what the fuss is all about.
Another fabulous happening coming up is the Wire & Wood Alpharetta Music Festival held October 11—12. According to Awesome Alpharetta, “Music will flow through the streets as talented artists perform their own songs with soulful melodies, magnificent vocals and expressive lyrics while interacting with the audience. Listeners will learn the stories behind each song and may recognize some of the tunes that are played by their favorite musicians.”
The music starts both days at 5:00 p.m. ‘til 10:00 p.m. and will be held across multiple stages throughout downtown Alpharetta. We’re excited to hear Banditos, a six-piece rock and roll band playing country, soul, garage rock and honky tonk. Honky tonk. Just reading those words gets us excited.
New this year, Alpharetta’s City Hall will transform the formal City Council Chambers into an intimate listening room. Bet you didn’t see that coming! We’re pumped because this free event is also a tourism winner—it was selected by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the Top 20 Events in 2018—so we know it’s going to be great again this year.
The festival will be held rain or shine and the way our weather has been lately, we’re leaning toward shine.
